Reckless stunt on ‘Thar’ sparks tension in Bhubaneswar, Police seize vehicle

Tension prevailed in parts of Bhubaneswar after a group of youths created chaos by climbing onto a Thar SUV and engaging in reckless behaviour in the Mancheswar police station area, police said on Friday.

According to officials, the youths, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, were seen climbing onto the vehicle, dancing and lying on its roof, openly flouting traffic rules and disrupting public order. Their actions not only endangered their own lives but also caused inconvenience to commuters by obstructing traffic and violating basic road safety norms.

Videos of the incident, which surfaced on social media, showed the youths brazenly defying traffic regulations, raising concerns over public safety and law enforcement in the area. Police sources said the accused had allegedly covered the vehicle’s number plate with stickers in an attempt to evade identification and mislead authorities.

The incident came to the notice of the police after the video was shared on the social media platform X by a user identified as Ashish Mishra. Acting promptly, the police launched an investigation, seized the Thar vehicle involved and detained two persons for questioning.

Police officials said further inquiry is underway to determine whether more individuals were involved and to assess the full extent of the violations. They added that strict action will be taken against those responsible to prevent such reckless behaviour in the future.
