Dhenkanal: A day after the proposed beer bottling unit in Jhinkargadi forest near Balarampur village in Dhenkanal was cancelled; the Revenue Divisional Commissioner, DV Swamy visited the spot today.

According to sources, the RDC visited Balarampur village and held discussions with the local residents.

"I could feel the emotions of the villagers connected with the forest. We will take proper action against all those who are responsible for felling of trees which we will get to know only after an inquiry," Swamy said.

Amid severe criticism and resentment by villagers, environmental activists, civil society organisations and uproar in Odisha Assembly, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday had ordered cancellation of the beer bottling plant.

On Saturday, as many as thousands of trees were felled despite stiff resistance from locals.
