Rayagada administration issues advisory to tackle heatwave, health department on alert
With temperatures steadily rising, the Rayagada district administration has issued an advisory to various departments to enhance preparedness to deal with heat-related illnesses in the coming months. Authorities have warned that the district could experience severe heatwave conditions as summer progresses.
Officials said intense heat has already been felt in several parts of the district. The administration anticipates that temperatures may rise further during March, April and May, increasing the risk of heatstroke and other heat-related health hazards.
Departments Asked to Stay Prepared
In view of the possible heatwave, the district administration has directed various departments to remain prepared and take necessary preventive measures. The advisory aims to ensure coordinated efforts among departments to minimise the impact of extreme heat on residents.
Authorities emphasised the importance of early preparedness to handle emergencies and reduce health risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
Health Department on Alert
The Health Department has been asked to remain on alert and strengthen its readiness to respond to cases of heat-related illnesses. Officials said appropriate measures will be taken to ensure that medical facilities are equipped to manage patients suffering from heatstroke and related conditions.
The administration has reiterated the need for vigilance as temperatures are expected to intensify over the next few months, posing potential health risks to the public.
Meanwhile, in Bhubaneswar, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a heatwave advisory as temperatures in the city fluctuate between 31°C and 36°C.
As part of the precautionary measures, the civic body has restricted outdoor construction work between 11 am and 3 pm from March 15 to reduce heat exposure among labourers.
The BMC has also announced relief measures including installation of drinking water kiosks at key public locations and placement of water pots for stray animals.
In addition, the civic body has activated its 24×7 control room, while Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has reactivated the toll-free helpline 1929 to assist people seeking help or medical advice related to heat exposure and sunstroke cases.
