Cuttack: Acting tough on the students, authorities of Ravenshaw University today lodged FIR against two students who reportedly detained the vice-chancellor (VC) Ishan Patro for 12 hours inside his office on Monday night while protesting cancellation of the student union polls.

The varsity authorities lodged the complaint at the Malgodown police station against two students for allegedly provoking other students to resort to protest against the decision.

Besides, show-cause notices have also been served to as many as 100 students in connection with the incident. The girl students who also stayed outside the hostel to become part of the protest have been asked as to give explanation as to why action shall not be taken against them for violating the rules of the hostels of the university.

Earlier on Monday, the varsity authorities announced that the institute will not go to polls this year after several student groups resorted to demonstration demanding reinstatement of direct elections in the varsity.

Following the incident, a group of students detained Patro and some staffs inside the VC office from 5 pm on Monday evening to 5 am the next day and released them only after the intervention of the police.
