Cuttack: At least seven students of the Ravenshaw University led by its students union president staged an indefinite hunger strike in front of the office of the varsity registrar here on Thursday.

The striking students claim that the university authorities have not paid heed to their nine-point charter demands submitted to the vice-chancellor through the registrar two months ago.

Improving academic ambiance and drinking water facilities were among those demands about which the students had brought to the notice of the authorities this January.

Similarly on February 21, these students had staged a dharna inside the campus, which was called off when the authorities assured the striking students that their demands would be taken care of within a month.

The varsity authorities, however, maintain that the recent strike by the students is uncalled for as almost all their demands have already been fulfilled.
