Cuttack: Academic activities were completely paralysed in Ravenshaw University campus here on Tuesday following group clashes between inmates of two boys hostels.

Trouble started on Monday evening over a flimsy reason which soon turned into a group clash in which inmates of two hostels were engaged in a pitched battle. While two students have sustained grievous injuries, a motorcycle was torched and a hostel, which was renovated recently, was ransacked.

In order to maintain law and order inside the campus, one platoon of police was deployed there while students of both groups sat on dharna in front of the office of the Vice-chancellor demanding action.

The University authorities set up a special committee comprising senior teachers and wardens of hostels and asked it to submit a report suggesting disciplinary actions if any against the erring students.

The university authorities would take action against the guilty based on the report, its acting registrar Padan Jena said.
