Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was seen distributing Prasad to the devotees during the Rath Yatra.

9:55 am: Puri Badadanda soaks in devotion as Lord of the Universe arrives; Pahandi of Lord Jagannath begins.

Devotion rents the air! Amid blowing of conches and beating of cymbals, Jay Jagannath chants reverberate all around as if enticing the Lords to  come out in the open and meet the devotees. And also making the devotees eager to meet their God – their eyes stuck to the temple gates from where the Trinity will step on to the Badadanda for their annual sojourn to Mausima.

All the three chariots– Nandighosa (Jagannath), Taladhwaja (Balabhadra) and Devadalana (Subhadra) are now all decked up and lined up on the Grand Trunk Road.

Ahead of the pulling of the three chariots by devotees to the Gundicha temple, the rituals including Mangala alati, Mailam, Tadapa Lagi and many more were performed as per tradition at Puri temple since early morning.

As the Rath Yatra in Puri is one of the major festivals that draws devotees in lakhs, adequate security and traffic arrangements have been made by district administration and Odisha police for the smooth conduct of the grand spectacle.

Over 140 platoons of police force along with NSG commandos have been deployed while a special security cover has also been made for the protection of the three chariots.

Similarly, 40 platoons of force have also been mobilised for monitoring and streamlining traffic flow during the conduct of the Rath Yatra. Besides,  90 additional SP rank officers, inspectors, 3,0000 sub-inspectors, ASIs, 500 Havildars, 1200 home guards have also been deployed.

Senior police officials informed that 120 CCTV cameras have been installed across the city to monitor traffic movement on major routes leading to Badadanda.

A traffic control room has also been set up at Kumbharpara and devotees can also get real time traffic updates from the official website of Puri police and Facebook page.

From blowing of conches to beating of cymbals, the air now in Puri reverberates with ‘Jay Jagannath’ chants with devotees all set to have a glimpse of  Trinity – Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra aboard their grand chariots for a nine-day sojourn on the occasion of Rath Yatra today.
