Bhubaneswar/Puri: In view of the Supreme Court’s recent directions barring direct collection of donations from devotees in Puri Srimandir, the Shri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) today informed that donation boxes (Hundis) will be installed on the chariots during Rath Yatra.

In a meeting of the Daitapati Nijog and the chief administrator of SJTA, Pradipta Mohapatra today, it was decided to install 12 donation boxes, four each on the three chariots of the trinity, informed sources.

"Hundis will be installed around the chariots of the trinity and also at Gundicha temple. Devotees can donate whatever they like in the donation boxes as servitors are prohibited from collection of money or something else as donation from devotees."

The preparation of the chariots of the deities are in full swing and are expected to be completed soon, Mohapatra added.

Speaking to mediapersons, president of the Daitapati Nijog, Ramakrushna Dasmohapatra said: "The Puri temple administration will install one donation box on each (four) side of the three chariots. Six hundis will be installed at Gundicha Temple."

He further said that he has demanded barricades to be placed in a manner so that devotees can at least touch the chariots.
