Rasmita Sahu in Indian Women Kabadi team
She is the lone Odia player in the 12-member Indian Kabaddi team. The four-day long women`s World Cup Kabaddi tournament is scheduled to commence from March one at the Indoor Stadium at Kankerbagh Sports Complex in Patna.
Rashmita (21) hails from a peasant family of Badaniranjanpur village in the district. She started playing Kabaddi during her high school days.
Jajpur District Atheletic Association has groomed her by providing coaching and introduced her in the district and state level Kabaddi tournaments.
"I am really proud of my daughter for being selected to represent India in the Womens World Cup Kabaddi event. Being a rural girl without adequate coaching and facilities she could rise to such an extent is unbelievable to me and others," said Dyrodhan Sahoo, father of Rashmita.
Her coach Purnachadra Sethi is also excited for Rashmita`s induction into 12 member Indian team.
"I and my team will certainly try to bring our country into a glory," said Rashmita.
Sixteen countries including the United States, Japan, England, Malaysia, Mexico, Italy, Sri Lanka, Canada, Nepal, Iran, Korea and Thailand are participating in the World Cup Kabaddi.
