A Supermoon occurs when the full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth in its elliptical orbit, making it appear unusually big and bright.

Astronomers say tonight’s Supermoon will be the second and closest one of the year, as the Earth-Moon distance narrows to nearly 3,50,000 kilometers.

The event can be easily observed with the naked eye, requiring no special equipment.

The spectacular celestial event marks the closest distance of the moon from Earth. As the moon orbits around the Earth, not in a perfectly circular path, but an elliptical path, bringing the moon sometimes closer to Earth and at other times moving it farther away.
