Sambalpur: The controversy over the re-rendition of legendary Sambalpuri number ‘Rangabati’ seems to have refused to die down with another case filed against singers Sona Mohapatra and Rituraj Mohanty here today.

Sources said BJP Yuva Morcha district vice-president Ashwini Majhi has filed a complaint at the Town police station here for remaking and “distorting” the historic chart-buster without the prior permission of its music director and lyricist.

On July 5, lyricist Mitrabhanu Gountia and music director Prabhudatta Pradhan of the folk song, which gained unprecedented popularity and sought to international fame, have moved court alleging copyright violation against MTV-Coke Studio that recorded and aired the song.

A suit of Rs 1-crore was registered against the studio and persons involved in making the remix of the Sambalpuri song. According to sources, legal notices were sent to the sponsors like Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited, Hindustan Coca Cola Holdings Private Limited, Viacom 18 Media Private Limited.

Singers Sona, her husband Ram Sampath and Rituraj have also been named in the case after the remix version went viral on television and social media sites.
