Rally in Bhubaneswar to mark World Tourism Day

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to raise awareness on preservation of ancient monuments and heritage of the State, the Cultural and Tourism department took out a rally here to mark the World Tourism Day today.

The rally was flagged off by Cultural and Tourism Minister Ashok Panda and Mayor of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Ananta Narayan Jena which started from Kalinga Stadium and concluded at Utkal Mandap in Bhubaneswar.

Many artistes showcasing the folk art and dance of Puri and other parts of the State participated in the rally.

“The department has proposed several plans for preservation of the ancient monuments and heritage of the State. The department has given Rs 9 crore for light and sound show in Samaleswari Temple,” informed Panda.

Panda further stated that around Rs 5 crore has been allocated for the protection of many ancient temples of Odisha which will be used for the renovation of Lingaraj Temple, Ananta Basudev Temple, Kedar Gouri Temple etc.

“The BMC is going to organise art rail which will cover Bindu Sagar lake to Kedar Gouri Temple and people will get the opportunity to get firsthand knowledge about the history, culture, language and tradition of the State,” said Jena.

On the other hand, internationally acclaimed sand artist Sudarsan Pattaik also came up with a sand sculpture today at Puri sea beach appealing the people to lessen the use of plastics and polythenes.
