Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha is again in news, but this time not for any Naxal activities or similar incidents. Making the region proud, Rakesh Ranjan Nayak has secured 154th rank in the IIT-Joint Entrance Examination (Kharagpur zone) 2012. Similarly Rajat Kumar Panda of Bhadrak and Anand Panda of Cuttack have secured 195th and 219th ranks respectively. The results have been published this morning and are available in websites of respective zones.
 
While Arpit Agarwal of Delhi has topped the all India merit list, Vijay Kochar of Chandigarh and Nishat Kaushik of Bhilai have secured the second and third positions, respectively.

Other ranks holders of the state are Rishav Pati-262 (Bhubaneswar), Rohit Aggarwal-444 (Kantabanjhi), Abhisek Mishra-720 (Nayagarh), Piyush Jain-788 (Bhubaneswar), Anubhav Mohanty-879 (Bhubaneswar) and Sabyasachi Mishra- 968 (Nayagarh).

The number of successful candidates this year in the state has gone up to 240 against 170 last year. According to Bhubaneswar IIT registrar BK Ray as many as 1,991 students have qualified in the eastern zone which comprises West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Vijaywada. Online counselling for the successful candidates under general category will start from tomorrow till June 10. Similarly for SC, ST and physically challenged students certificate verification will be held between 1 and 3 June while counselling will start from June 4, Ray said.

Admission into all the IITs and other coveted institutes will be held in three phases on June 14, 25 and July 4 while classes will start from July 23. This year nearly five lakh and six thousand students had appeared in the examination for nine thousand odd seats of India’s 15 IITs and Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University and Indian School of Mines.
