Rajya Sabha polls: Numbers favour BJP in 2 seats; trust crisis in BJD could flip game, claims Odisha MLA

BJP MLA Babu Singh made a strong and explosive statement on Sunday on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha, triggering intense political discussion. He said that, based on numerical strength, the BJP is sure of winning two Rajya Sabha seats, while the BJD has the numbers for one seat.

However, Singh claimed the real battle lies over the fourth seat, for which no party has a clear majority. According to him, that seat could also go to the BJP. He further stated that it cannot be ruled out that even more seats may swing in the BJP’s favour.

The BJP legislator alleged that the BJD supremo lacks confidence in his own MLAs, citing recent suspensions of party legislators as evidence. Singh argued that despite having the required numbers for the third seat, the BJD’s internal trust deficit could result in the seat shifting to the BJP due to a lack of faith in party discipline.

“It is a straight mathematical calculation. Two seats are with the BJP for sure, and BJD has the requisite number for one seat. I am not sure whether the number can be retained (by the BJD) till the last date (the date of polling) or not,” MLA Babu Singh stated.

“The manner in which two of their MLAs were recently suspended, there is a possibility that Naveen Babu (Naveen Patnaik) could, one fine night, suspend all his party legislators. There is nothing to get astonished for this,” the BJP leader expressed.

“With regard to the fourth seat, I believe, the BJP is in a comfortable position. It is very likely that we could also win the fourth seat,” MLA Babu Singh added.
