Rajya Sabha polls: Independent candidate Dilip Ray’s visit to Bijoy Mohapatra’s residence sparks political buzz in Odisha

Senior political leader Dilip Ray, who is set to contest the Rajya Sabha election independently, visited the residence of veteran leader Bijoy Mohapatra on Wednesday, drawing attention amid heightened political activity in the state. The information was shared by Patkura MLA Arvind Mohapatra.

The visit comes shortly after Dilip Ray’s name was announced as an Independent candidate for the Rajya Sabha, triggering political discussions and interpretations across Odisha. 

In this context, his meeting with Arvind Mohapatra has led to speculation in political circles.

Nature Of Visit Clarified

However, Arvind Mohapatra clarified that no political discussions took place during the meeting. He stated that Dilip Ray had visited only to extend Holi greetings owing to their long-standing family relationship.

Speaking on the matter, the Patkura MLA said, “He visited here as he does every year. There were no political discussions or talks regarding the Rajya Sabha. Nobody discussed anything with me. We celebrated Holi, as we share a familial relationship. The nomination is scheduled for March 5, and we will have to see how the situation evolves on March 6.”

He further added, “Our relationship is not merely surface-level. He did not come here to seek support. He is a capable candidate with over 40 years of experience in both Odisha and national politics.”

Candidate Described As Experienced And Suitable

While dismissing speculation of political deliberations, Arvind Mohapatra described Dilip Ray as a suitable and experienced candidate for the Rajya Sabha. He reiterated that the visit was purely social in nature and not linked to any political negotiation.
