Rajya Sabha polls: Candidates file nominations on final day in Odisha

The nomination process for the Rajya Sabha election in Odisha gathered momentum on the final day on Thursday, with candidates from major political parties submitting their papers before the Returning Officer in Bhubaneswar.

Santrupt Misra filed his nomination as a candidate of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), submitting three sets of nomination papers. The filing of nominations was attended by members of both the BJD and the Congress, reflecting the political significance of the election process.

Leaders Present During Nomination Filing

During the nomination process, BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik and Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Bhakta Das were seen sitting together. Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam and other members were also present at the venue.

Several BJD MLAs were also present in the nomination filing room while the process was underway.

Joint Candidate Also Files Nomination

Meanwhile, Dr Datteswar Hota filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha as a joint candidate. His nomination filing also took place before the Returning Officer as part of the process on the final day.

The presence of leaders and legislators from different political parties during the nomination process underlined the importance of the election in the state’s political landscape.

BJP Candidates Also In Fray

For the Rajya Sabha election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded two candidates. Manmohan Samal and Sujeet Kumar also filed their nominations as the party’s nominees.
