Balasore: For the second consecutive day, Balasore District & Sessions Court on Thursday deferred hearing on the bail petition of ex-minister Raghunath Mohanty’s son Rajashree Mohanty till tomorrow.

The hearing was deferred by the Court after Rajashree’s lawyer failed to submit relevant documents relating to withdrawal of bail petition filed in Odisha High Court.

The lawyer of the ex-minister’s son sought time before the judge till Friday to submit the documents when the court asked him for the same.

Meanwhile the bail plea moved by by Rajashree in the High Court has been withdrawn, sources said.

Rajashree is in judicial custody since March 18 after his bail pleas were rejected repeatedly on March 18, 21 and 25 by the SDJM court and Balasore District & Sessions court.

Rajashree was nabbed by Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) team near Cuttack on March 16, two days after his wife Barsha Sony Choudhury accused him and four of his family members of torturing for dowry.

Barsa in her FIR had alleged her mother-in-law Pritilata used to physically assault and mentally torture her for dowry.

The co-accused in the case, Raghunath Mohanty and his wife, after spending three nights in jail, were however granted bail on Tuesday.

Notably, other two accused, Mohanty’s daughter and son-in-law are still at large.

Meanwhile, the HRPC team on Wednesday seized some dowry items from Mohanty's residence at Amarda Road in Balasore.

Barsa's father and her uncle accompanied the HRPC team during the seizure.
