The official residence of the Governor in Odisha will now be known as ‘Lok Bhavan’, following a notification issued on Monday, marking a symbolic shift in the state’s administrative identity. Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati approved the renaming in line with a directive from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
Announcing the change, the Governor said the new name embodies a stronger bond between governance and citizens, responding to the spirit of transparency and public participation envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Lok Bhavan reflects openness, accessibility and partnership between the administration and the people,” he stated, adding that the move aims to reinforce citizen empowerment and inclusive development.
According to the Governor, the building will continue to function as a key interface for public dialogue and consultation, now with an expanded emphasis on democratic engagement.
“Happy to share a meaningful milestone for Odisha as Raj Bhavan is now Lok Bhavan, a name that truly reflects the aspirations of our people. Inspired by the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and guided by the Ministry of Home Affairs, this change reinforces our commitment to transparency, accessibility, and a stronger public connect. Lok Bhavan now stands as a vibrant space for public engagement and inclusive progress, reflecting our resolve to build deeper participation in governance. I am honoured to lead this transition for Odisha. #LokBhavan,” the Governor tweeted.
