Rains in Odisha till Sept 15, to lessen from 16th as LOPAR to move towards TN-Andhra!

Bhubaneswar: Odisha will experience widespread rainfall (means in majority of places) for today and tomorrow on account of the Monsoon trough passing through Digha and thence east-south-eastwards to north east Bay of Bengal.

The weather charts of US based Climate prediction Centre shows development of a low pressure zone over Odisha on September 14. But the rain prediction made for the State has been in the range of 40 mm.

The IMD has also made a forecast of fairly widespread (means in many places) rainfall in Odisha for September 14 & 15.

As per the weather model of INCOIS (Indian national Centre for Ocean information Services), another Low Pressure Area (LOPAR) will be formed over west- central bay of Bengal and thence will move as a depression towards the North Tamil Nadu - South Andhra coast by September 18 (as shown in figure below). As a consequence, rains will abate in Odisha.

A look at the rainfall data available with the local met office here shows that Paradip has recorded the highest precipitation amount of around 35.8 mm before 9 am this morning. Bolangir and Chandbali followed with 15.6 mm and 14 mm, respectively. The Capital city has witnessed around 9 mm rainfall this morning. However, places like Keonjhar, Sundergarh and Berhampur have not recorded any rainfall today.

The rainfall data further disclosed that the State has received over 1061 mm rainfall till date this Monsoon, which is 4 per cent more than the average normal rainfall.

An analysis of the data shows that Odisha received more than half of the 1016 mm rainfall measured till date in little over 30 days ( August 1- September 4).
