Rainfall activity to increase as monsoon winds will touch Odisha in 2 to 3 days: Met

Bhubaneswar: The weather department today issued rainfall warning for several parts of Odisha in view of the onset of Southwest monsoon winds in southern and eastern parts of the State in two to three days.

Director of Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas, today informed that the present climatic conditions prevailing on the Bay of Bengal near Odisha, West Bengal and its adjacent region is favouring advancement of monsoon circulation towards the State.

"A cyclonic circulation on East Central and adjoining NE Bay of Bengal presently exists at around 3.6 to 5.8 km in upper atmospheric level. Another circulation presently existing at around 0.9 km of the atmosphere over Odisha, West Bengal and Jharkhand is helping in the movement of the monsoon winds," said Biswas.

In the next 24 hours, rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and wind gusting up to 30-40 kmph will be experienced in most of the districts, added Biswas.

"As the monsoon winds are inching closer to the State, rainfall activity will be witnessed in the districts of Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Puri, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Gajapati and Ganjam," said Biswas.

Heavy rainfall activity will be witnessed in south and coastal areas from tomorrow under the impact of a low pressure. Districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur will get more rainfall and after three days, the rainfall activity is likely to decrease.
