Rayagada: Hundreds of train passengers had a harrowing time today after their trains remained stranded for nearly four hours at different railway stations in the district following disruption in railway traffic due to technical glitches in the engine of a goods train.

According to sources, the engine of a coal-laden train at Keutaguda station suddenly developed technical glitches today morning leading to disruption in train services on Koraput-Rayagada route.

Following the incident, Koraput-Vishakhapatnam DEMU was halted at Bhalumuska and Samaleswari Express was stationed at Shikarapai. Similarly, DEMU running from Vishakhapatnam to Koraput was stopped at Keutaguda railway station.

Railway authorities have informed that a new engine will be roped in to divert the malfunctioned train engine so that route can be cleared. It is likely to take few more hours to restore the train services on the route, sources said.

Meanwhile, passengers stranded inside the trains have complained of suffering due to scorching heat and lack of drinking water.

Till last reports came in, the train services were yet to be restored.
