Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, a railway gangman was battered to death by a miscreant here on early Wednesday morning. Another gangman who was also attacked by the miscreant has been shifted to a private hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the victim, identified as Malay Ketan Pradhan was hit on head with an iron rod from behind by the miscreant when he was repairing the railway track at platform number 1.
When Pradhan screamed in pain, another gangman who was also working on the track at a distance, rushed to Pradhan. Seeing the gangman running towards him, the miscreant identified as Muna Banua of Guwahati in Assam also hit him and fled the spot.
On being informed by some passengers, the GRP immediately shifted Pradhan to Mancheswar railway hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
The injured gangman is undergoing treatment in a private hospital, sources said.
Meanwhile, the GRP managed to catch Banua, who appears to be mentally retarded, sources added.
