Angul: Locals and members of various social welfare organisations today staged a 'rail roko' protest at Bamur railway station in the district demanding halt of two express trains at the station.

According to sources, members of Railway Users Consultative Committee and residents of local areas staged the agitation demanding the railway authorities to halt Puri-Sambalpur and Bhubaneswar-Bolangir Intercity Express at Bamur railway station.

Trains services were adversely affected on the railway line following the rail-roko agitation.

The agitators alleged that despite repeated requests to make provision for stoppage of express trains at the station, the administration has turned a blind eye to their demands.

The Railway Users Consultative Committee has also called for a bandh in Bamur and Kishorenagar area while pressing for their demands.

Markets, business establishments and government offices have remained closed while vehicular movement has also been hit due to the bandh in the region. However, emergency services have been kept out the purview of the shutdown.

Meanwhile, adequate security measures have been taken by the district administration to avoid any untoward incident.
