Rourkela: In raids conducted by Revenue officials with the help of police, five illegal quarries were traced and a fine of Rs 82,000 collected from persons involved in mining activities in Sundargarh district.

Official sources said here on Thursday that Tahasildar of Sabdega Uday Kumar Mohapatra raided the stone quarries in Dumpkuda, Pheruadihi and Jurumkela areas and sealed the quarries.

The raids were conducted yesterday following series of complaints received from the local villagers about illegal mining and transportation of precious stones from the area.
