Raghunath & his family move HC for anticipatory bails

Bhubaneswar: To avoid arrests former minister Raghunath Mohanty and his family moved the Orissa High Court and sought anticipatory bails in connection with the dowry torture case lodged by his daughter-in-law Barshasoni Choudhury.

Beside the Mohanty couple, their daughter Rupashree and son-in-law Subendu Madhual also moved the high court for anticipatory bail in a separate application.

Meanwhile, the SDJM court in Balasore on Monday rejected the bail plea of ex-minister's son Rajashree and sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Reiterating her demand Barshasoni sought immediate arrest of former minister Raghunath Mohanty and his family. "Not only Rajashree tortured me but also his other family members were involved in it. So, they should be arrested immediately. I have trust on the HRPC team," Barshasoni said.

Barshasoni Choudhury and her family filed an FIR on Thursday night alleging dowry torture against the ex-minister's family members including wife Pritirekha Mohanty, son Rajashree Mohanty and daughter and son-in-law. In her FIR Barshasoni said Mohanty and his family have been demanding a car and more Rs 25 lakh as dowry.
