Cuttack: State’s premier educational institute Ravenshaw University is once again in news for wrong reasons where a ragging incident in one the ladies hostels has been reported on Wednesday here.

A 5th year PG student, also a boarder of Bhargavi Hostel, has been allegedly subjected to mental torture by her 6th year seniors.

Following the incident, the juniors have cried foul against the seniors accusing them of mental torture. The juniors, in a written complaint, have informed the university authorities against the alleged ragging by their seniors.

“The 6th year boarders locked up the first year boarders in a room and did not let them go. Hence, the 5th year students have informed the university authorities in a written format,” General Secretary, Students’ Union of Ravenshaw University Girija Shankar Mallik said.

Refuting allegations of harassment, Registrar of Ravenshaw University Smarpriya Mishra has clarified the incident as a mere misunderstanding between the boarders arising out of a farewell party in the hostel on Tuesday.

“It is not at all a case of ragging. The boarders had a farewell meeting yesterday. But problem cropped up as some of the juniors could not invite the seniors to the farewell party. But the differences have been sorted out and the issue is now over,” the Registrar informed.

According to reports, the juniors had organized a farewell party for their seniors in the hostel on Tuesday night. But trouble erupted as some of the juniors could not turn up before their seniors to invite them to the party.

However, the confusion was solved after the university authorities intervened into the matter.
