Puri district is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus, Situated along the coast of Bay of Bengal in the state of Odisha. Puri is also known as Jagannath Puri. It is considered as one “Dhaam” among four holy “Dhaam” in India. The holy script of the Skanda Purana describes Puri as the resting place of Lord Vishnu. Apart from this Puri district is famous for its golden sea beach and black pagoda or sun temple of Konark. The famous heritage art village Raghurajpur is in this district, where artisans paint world famous Pattachitra painting. Puri Khaja, Khechuudi, Dalma has its own special flavor.
As the legend goes, Lord Jagannath had left Goddess Laxmi behind in the temple while going to his aunt’s house along with her brother and sister. On Hera Panchami, Goddess Laxmi went to Gundhicha temple to meet Lord Jagannath but he closed the door and did not allow her to meet making her angry.

Lord Jagannath’s Badagrahi Jagannath Swain Mohapatra on Thursday expressed displeasure over the usage of old ornaments during the regular rituals of the Holy Trinity over the years even if there are more valuable ornaments stored in the Ratna Bhandar of the 12th century shrine.
A sea of devotees witnessed the lord and his siblings basking in the glory of gold as the servitors decorated the Trinity with 35 different ornaments running into stashes of gold as a part of the Suna Besha ritual.

ASI officials asserted the safety of Srimandir following an inspection of Garbhagruha, Jagamohan and Natyamandap of the 12th century shrine today.
The three chariots Taladhwaja (Lord Balabhadra), Debadalana (Goddess Subhadra), and Nandighosha (Lord Jagannath), returned to Srimandir pulled by a sea of revering devotees marking the end of the nine-day sojourn of the Lord and his siblings to their aunt’s place - Gundicha temple.
Following the mishap, all the injured were shifted to the Puri District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
Later, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra and Lord Jagannath were taken to their respective chariots in ceremonial processions amid beating of gongs, blowing of conches and chants of Jay Jagannath.

For the return journey, the chariots are turned south toward the Jagannath Temple. So the ritual gets its name ‘Dakshina Moda or southward turn.
