Puri Swargadwar Set For A Makeover

Puri: The Swargadwar crematorium on the sandy beach of pilgrim city Puri is all set to get a facelift with the district administration mulling over developing it similar to the model of Mahaprasthanam Crematorium of Andhra Pradesh.

As part of the several reform measures suggested by the Supreme Court, it is believed that the latest development might give a new lease of life to the famous crematorium which has been hit by land encroachments over several decades.

According to sources, Puri collector and additional collector visited Telangana and Andhra Pradesh where they reviewed Mahaprasthanam Crematorium and other such major projects two months back.

Following proposal of the Puri administration for the development of Swargadwar, a team of experts from Hyderabad visited the crematorium recently and examined its condition.

A detail project report (DPR) has been prepared for the project, said Puri Collector Balwant Singh. “We had called some firms which have developed Mahaprasthanam and other crematorium projects in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Details of the project on the existing plot have given to them and they are working on it,” said Singh.
