Puri: The servitors' body of Puri Srimandir today opposed the affidavit filed by Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) before the Supreme Court over the number of servitors required to perform duties at the temple.

Recently, the SJTA, in an affidavit had informed the apex court that only 36 servitors are needed to perform the daily rituals at the 12th century shrine.

Speaking to media persons, senior servitor Binayak Das Mohapatra said, “The information about the number of servitors required for the daily rituals at Srimandir provided to the Supreme Court is not correct. There are many important festivals celebrated in the temple in a year due to which the requirement of servitors is also more.”

“As per my knowledge, at least 80 to 100 servitors are required to perform different rituals each day. A false affidavit has been filed in the apex court. Based on which fact, the information has been given to the court?” he added.

No comments could be obtained from SJTA yet in this regard.
