Puri: Shankaracharya Swami Nischalananda Saraswati on Thursday stressed on the need for economic well being of servitors of the Puri Srimandir to ensure behavioural change and more disciplined service.

Stating that the 12th century shrine should not be considered as a factory or Gandhi’s memorial, he said tradition of the temple should be safeguarded and service to deities must be carried out in a systematic manner.

The Apex court must be elaborately explained about passing down of this tradition of services by families of the servitor's generation after generation, the seer added after his meeting with the Gajapati Dibyasingha Deb at the Govardhan Matha here.

The Gajapati stressed on the need for a legal cell by the temple administration. “The cell should include servitors who are well versed in issues of Srimandir and the legal affairs too,” he added.

Among others, senior servitors and members of Chhatisa Nijog were present at the meeting.
