The hundi (donation box) of the Shri Jagannath Temple in the holy city of Puri received approximately Rs 18 crore 59 lakh 23 thousand during the last year, reflecting the continued devotion of millions of devotees visiting the 12th-century shrine.
Apart from cash offerings, devotees also donated significant quantities of precious metals. According to official figures, 3 kg 441 grams of mixed gold and approximately 33 kg 648 grams of mixed silver ornaments were offered at the temple during the year.
Rs 58kg Gold
Providing detailed information in the State Assembly, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Saturday stated in a written reply that from 1981 up to the financial year 2024–25, a total of 58 kg 317 grams of gold and 158 kg 836 grams of silver have been collected from the temple hundi.
Over Rs 300cr
The Minister further informed that between the financial year 2011–12 and 2024–25, the temple administration has received Rs 304 crore 57 lakh from hundi collections and other donations combined. The figures highlight the immense faith reposed by devotees in Lord Jagannath and the steady inflow of contributions supporting temple activities, rituals, and infrastructure development.
The data was tabled in response to a query in the Assembly, offering a comprehensive overview of the temple’s donation trends over the years.
