Bhubaneswar: The Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Dr P L Punia on Monday demanded that the police should register case against Pipli MLA Pradip Maharathi and arrest him for his alleged links with the main accused in the Pipli gangrape case. The Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes made the demand in the state capital in a press meet. Dr Punia also held the police and the doctors responsible.

Dr Punia told the media that action must be taken against Pipli MLA and former minister Pradip Maharathi as he was equally responsible for the incident since the main accused Prashant Pradhan was nabbed from the farm house of the MLA.

Dr Punia also demanded that the former inspector in-charge of the Pipli police station who has since been dismissed from service must be sent to jail and action must also be initiated against the doctors who did not conduct medical examination of the victim and provide timely treatment to her.

The Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes Dr P L Punia today enquired about the condition of the rape victim undergoing treatment in the SCB Medical college and hospital in Cuttack and met her parents and brother.
