Protest for HC bench marks Sambalpur R-Day celebrations
Sambalpur: Lawyers of Bar Association of Sambalpur registered their protest over demand for HC bench during the Republic Day celebrations in the district today. The lawyers have been agitating for around four months pressing for the establishment of a permanent High Court bench in western Odisha.
According to sources, the protesting lawyers observed Republic Day by unfurling the National Flag at an event held just 100 meters away from the district-level event organised by the district administration at Kacheri Road. The lawyers organised this parallel event as a mark of protest.
The lawyers also raised slogans against Minister Prafulla Mallick, who was the chief guest of the district-level R-Day event.
Spokesperson for Western Odisha Central Action Committee (CAC), Sureswar Mishra said “The Centre and the Odisha government have to respect the people who are fighting for their constitutional rights.”
Minister Prafulla Mallick said “The lawyers are considered as intellectuals. They protested in their own way and did not cause any uproar. The Odisha government is sympathetic towards their demands.”
