Proposal to rename a road after Netaji

"We are going to suggest to the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) to name either the road in front of Netaji?s ancestral home in Odia Bazar or the one in front of Ravenshaw Collegiate, where Netaji studied, as `Netaji Marg`, district collector Kishore Mohanty said today.

The city civic body which has also geared up in a big way to celebrate Netaji Jayanti on January 23 has appreciated the idea. "We are yet to receive any such proposal. But I am sure the proposal would be welcomed by the CMC council," said city Mayor Soumendra Kumar Ghosh.
Meanwhile, Netaji Birthplace Museum at his ancestral home in Odia Bazar is being refurbished.

An old painting of Netaji and a sword used by members of Rani of Jhansi Regiment of INA were donated to the museum recently by a city-based Netaji admirer whose father was a medical officer of the INA.

The museum has several INA insignia which have been obtained from INA secretary S S Yadav of New Delhi. Efforts are also on to contact living INA associates to collect some more items to be displayed in the museum, sources said.

Similarly, an INA regalia sword which was handed over to Captain D Dasan of Chennai by Netaji himself in 1944, now on display in the museum. Dasan, President of Chennai based Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Memorial National Welfare Foundation, during his visit to the state in 2004 had donated the four feet long sword for display in the museum.
