Puri/Dhenkanal: Over ten families were rendered homeless and property worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed in two separate fire mishaps in Puri and Dhenkanal districts on Wednesday.

In Puri, a major fire broke out yesterday in the store room of Biswambhar Bidyapitha (School) in which massive damages to property were reported. On being informed, fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames thereby preventing any further damages, added sources. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

In another incident, nearly 15 rooms were reduced to ashes after a major fire broke out at Gengutia village under Parjanga tehsil of Dhenkanal district yesterday. Sources said property worth lakhs of rupees including household articles were reduced to ashes in the fire mishap.  By the time the fire tenders reached the spot and brought the fire under control, the houses had been reduced to ashes, informed sources. The exact reason behind the fire is yet to ascertained, added sources.

Meanwhile, the incident sparked huge resentment among the locals, who alleged that no one from the district administration has reached the spot and taken stock of the situation.
