Rourkela: Tiny little eyes of 4-year old Bhumik Nayak light up when he speaks about his school and studies. A resident of Jharbeda village, Bhumik was suffering from a squint eye and weak vision. He has been given a new lease of life by doctors of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) under Project Baljyoti.

The parents of the child said they could not afford the medical treatment owing to their weak financial condition.

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) came to the rescue of young Bhumik through its unique CSR initiative of Project Baljyoti.

RSP provided treatment to the child and bore all expenses, ensuring a better future for him, a senior RSP official said.

Bindu Sahu, a woman in her thirties said she had lost her vision and hearing ability suddenly. The CSR department of RSP understood her plight and provided her with eye treatment at IGH under the Project Sunayana. Bindu, a resident of slums in Sector-15, regained her vision after undergoing PHACO surgery at IGH by a team of doctors led by Dr B B Rao, Director (Medical & Health Services), recently.

Her hearing problem will be addressed soon by doctors of IGH under Project Sushruti, another initiative of RSP under its CSR activities. Bindu said she is overjoyed with the treatment.

Project Sunayana, Project Baljyoti and Project Sushruti are the various corporate social initiatives of RSP.

Project Sunayana deals with treatment of eye problems of adults from financially weak backgrounds residing in and around Rourkela, while Baljyoti deals with children with eye related diseases having similar backgrounds.

Project Sushruti takes care of people with hearing impairment. These projects have provided many with a new hope and a better life, RSP officials said.
