Balangir: Ahead of `Sulia` festival of tribals on Tuesday, the district administration of Balangir today imposed prohibitory orders to prevent mass animal sacrifice on the ocassion.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC were imposed in five villages of Khairaguda, Umuria, Bada Khala, Sana Khala and Nua Khala under Tusura police station area.

The Sulia Peeth is located about 20 km from here.

"Prohibitory orders are clamped from today at five nearby villages including at Sulia Temple till January 12," said Balangir district sub-collector Rajendra Kumar Patnaik.

Stating that hundreds of animals including buffaloes were being sacrificed every year at Sulia Peeth, he said the district administration imposed the order to implement a high court order.

This apart, the administration had also prohibited entry of eight functionaries of Balangir Adivasi Kalyan Sangha including its President Braja K Singh Bhoi to the Sulia peeth, the sub-collector said adding these people had been identified as `promoters` of animal sacrifice in the district.

The district administration had also launched an awareness campaign in the area against animal sacrifice.
