Bhubaneswar: With an aim to closely and regularly monitor the academic progress of students, the Odisha government has decided to introduce 'Proctorial' system.

After a meeting with college principals through video conference, Odisha Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo said that several initiatives are being taken to further streamline the higher education system in the State and the 'Proctorial' system will help enhance the academic performance of students.

The new system, which is expected to boost students' academics by rectifying their problems, will be introduced in 1,047 Plus-III colleges across the State.

Apart from Proctorial system, smart classes have been launched in 101 colleges while 75% attendance of students and a mandatory seven-hour duty of teachers will be also be ensured henceforth.

The meeting also discussed several other aspects like infrastructure grants from State Budget, NAAC accreditation, laptop distribution and land requirements of colleges among others.

"New technology will be used in the teaching process. Recordings of teachings will be kept so that students can refer to them whenever possible. Besides, different districts will be converted into units for better administration and control," said Sahoo.
