Bhubaneswar: Shocking to know but true nonetheless. Principal posts in all colleges of Odisha are lying vacant. Sanctioned principal posts in all the 52 government colleges and 598 posts in as many aided private colleges are vacant, stated Higher Education Minister Ananta Das in the State Assembly today.

Replying to an un-starred query from Rourkela legislator Dilip Ray on the number teaching and non-teaching posts lying vacant at degree colleges, the minister furnished the above data.

“At present in-charge Principal are managing the affairs at the government-run colleges,” Das' written reply mentioned.

The State government is taking appropriate steps to fill up them, the minister's statement mentioned.

Out of 2,306 sanctioned posts for lecturers at government colleges, 1,284 are lying vacant.

Moreover, in aided private colleges, out of 6,364 sanctioned lecturer posts, 1,666 posts are lying vacant.

The minister said the State Selection board has been asked to fill up 833 posts.

Out of 2,299 sanctioned posts for non-teaching staff, 1,165 posts are lying vacant in government degree colleges while 1,098 non-teaching posts are lying vacant in private-aided colleges, the minister informed.
