Bhubaneswar: After two days on the run, the prime suspect in the sensational lady entrepreneur murder case was arrested by commissionerate police on late Friday night. Dipti Ranjan Patnaik, the security guard of slain lady Bachansudhha Patnaik, an accused in the case was taken to Mancheswar police station for interrogation. In the following morning, police took the accused to the crime spot for investigation.
"We have arrested Dipti ranjan Nayak alias Patnaik on charges of murdering the lady entrepreneur. Dipti has confessed to the crime. From him we have seized some belongings of Bachansudhha. Till now from the investigation it has been confirmed that only one person was involved in the crime," said Nitinjeet Singh, DCP.
The motive behind the crime is robbery attempt. After killing Bachansudhha, Dipti took away currency notes including foreign currency from the lady's vanity bag. He utilised the money while hiding from police. Meanwhile, no diamond necklace has been recovered from the accused, Singh added.
"Today we brought Dipti to the spot to know how the crime happened. The accused told us in detail how he entered the woman's kitchen and assaulted her," the officer said.
Bachansudha, the managing director of Madhukan Agro and Automobile Private Limited was found in a pool of blood with throat slit at her residence in Rasulgarh area on Wednesday. Miscreants attacked her to loot the costly necklace, police suspected. However, the neighbors informed cops after hearing noise from the three storey building. Police reached the spot only to recover the dead body of the lady business man.
Police started suspecting the security guard Dipti Ranjan as he was not present in the guard chamber at the gate when they reached spot. Even the private security guard absconded after the brazen daylight crime. Police also raided the private security agency under which Dipti was working.
