Keonjhar: The Naba Nirman Krushak Sanghathan (NNKS), an outfit spearheading the farmers' agitation in Odisha, has issued an ultimatum to State government to meet their demands of price, prestige and pension by January 30. The NNKS further warned to launch a non-cooperation agitation across the State if their demands are not met within the stipulated deadline.

Keonjhar district unit of the NNKS held a meeting at Patana village on Saturday and reiterated its demand of Rs 5,000 pension for farmers across the State and minimum support price (MSP) of Rs 2,930 for paddy.

The outfit members further threatened that as the farmers were deterred by police to enter Bhubaneswar during a rally on Novmenber 5 last year, they will not allow any politicians and ministers to enter the villages across the State.

“We will intensify our agitation if the government does not fulfil our demands of price, prestige and pension by January 30,” threatened the district co-ordinator of NNKS, Laxmidhar Pradhan.

Member of NNKS, Sangram Kishore stated, “If the Stae government do not announce pension for farmers and hike paddy MSP to Rs 2,930 per quintal as per the resolution passed in Odisha Assembly, we will launch a non-cooperation agitation. Besides, we will not allow any leaders of political parties in various panchayts across the State on January 18 and 19.”
