Vigilance Department Superintendent of Police (SP) Satyaban Mahanand passed away following a heart attack, sources said on Thursday. He had recently been transferred to Cuttack after being promoted from his previous posting in Rourkela.
A recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the DGP’s Commendation Medal, Mahanand was widely respected for his integrity, professionalism, and dedication to duty.
Starting his career as a Sub-Inspector of Police, he rose through the ranks to serve as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and later as SP in the Vigilance Directorate.
Known for his honesty and commitment, Mahanand had led several successful vigilance traps and raids in districts like Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, and Nuapada, earning a reputation for his tough stance against corruption.

His sudden demise has left colleagues and subordinates deeply shocked, with many describing him as a transparent, hardworking, and compassionate officer who served the force with distinction throughout his career.
