Started on the auspicious Akshaya Trutiya day, the construction work of the 42 wheels required for the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Goddess Subhadra is currently in the final stage of completion.
Under a chief carpenter called Maharana, a number of carpenters and their assistants work to a definite plan to complete the construction of the three Rathas before the famous Sital Sasthi festival.
“Most of the work has already been completed and the rest is going to be completed before Sital Sasthi,” said Rabi Bhoi, Bhoi Sardar.
While 26 carpenters are busy with the construction of Nandighosh of Lord Jagannath and Taladhwaj of Balabhadra, for Darpadalan of Devi Subhadra 24 carpenters are busy building the blocks.
“The progress of construction work has been satisfactory. Most importantly, we have already procured the logs required for the construction work,” said Pradipta Mohapatra Chief Administrator, Shri Jagannath Temple, Puri.
