Pregnant minor girl takes abortion pills, hospitalised

Kandhamal: A minor girl of Tumudibandha area in the district was hospitalised in critical condition on Tuesday night after taking abortion pills allegedly given by her boyfriend.

Sources said, the minor girl and youth, who is reportedly her neighbour, were in physical relationship for quite some time and on Tuesday morning, when the youth came to about that the girl is three-month pregnant, he allegedly gave her some abortion pills to terminate the pregnancy.

Later the minor girl fell sick in the evening following which her parents rushed her to Tumudibandha Community Health Centre (CHC). She was later shifted to Baliguda Sub-Divisional Hospital and then to Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) after her condition deteriorated.

However, the family members of the girl are yet to lodge police complaint in connection with the incident.

Earlier on January 14, a youth was arrested by police for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor girl under G. Udayagiri police limits in Kandhamal district.
