Berhampur: Ahead of the student union election, unrest surfaced in Berhampur University after violent clashes yesterday night leaving two students grievously injured.

According to sources, a few senior students along with some outsiders had called the juniors for a meeting. However, when the juniors refused to attend the meeting, senior students allegedly attacked them with cricket bats, iron rods and sticks.

Following the incident, two platoons of police force have been deployed at the campus to avoid any untoward incident.

As per latest reports, many students of the university are staging protest in front of the administrative building of the university demanding action against the accused.

"I was forcefully taken to the meeting and was beaten up by 6 to 7 seniors with iron rods, cricket bats and sticks. The security guards didn't take any action and also never stop outsiders from entering the university campus," a first year student said.

The university officials are yet to comment on the matter.
