Potable water out of reach for Cuttack residents as water supply project remains defunct

The government has launched several schemes to supply drinking water to every household, spending crores of rupees on the ambitious projects. However, despite such huge expenditures, people are still not receiving potable water. 

Villagers of Gobindaram Patana under Niali block in Cuttack district are still grappling with drinking water issues, thanks to water project that has been lying defunct since months.  Though a water tank has been constructed, pipes have been laid and taps have been set by spending crores, the project has been lying defunct without having any utility. 

Residents of the village have expressed deep disappointment over the issue. After repeatedly lodging complaints from the panchayat level up to the block level without any resolution, the villagers have become helpless. Nearly 300 families are struggling every day to get safe drinking water. 

"Though water was provided through pipe before one year, the system has been lying defunct for the last three-four months. We are facing many problems in fetching drinking water and use of water in other purposes. We request the government to provide us water as soon as possible," said a villager.

"We are dependent on only one tube-well. It's taking a long time to reach there and fetch water. We request the government to solve the issue soon," said another villager.

"Though we approached the Sarpanch about the problem, he expressed his helplessness. Then we requested Niali BDO about the matter and he assured us to solve the issue within only three days. However, nothing has happened in the last two months. We request the government to provide us water as soon as possible," said a local resident.
