Bhubaneswar:  The Posco land acquisition has been postponed on Monday due to the stiff opposition from villagers.

The administration has taken the stance of wait and watch. Hence they are likely to analyze the situation and later decide their course of action.

The anti-Posco agitation is getting stronger as many social activists are expressing their solidarity with the agitators. Ekta Parishad’s president PV Rajagopal has reached the Posco site. While, social activist Medha Patkar has reached Bhuabneswar and will visit the proposed POSCO site today.

Earlier on Saturday, a team of Bharatiya Janata Party leaders from the state had gone there, while Swami Agnivesh and a delegation of the state Congress visited Gobindpur on Friday to extend their support to the anti-Posco agitators.

Of the three panchayats-Dhinkia, Nuagaon and Gadakujang-in the proposed Posco project site, the administration`s land acquisition at Nuagaon and Gadkujang panchyats were almost incident free. It, however, met with stiff resistance at Gobindpur on the boundary of the Dhinkia panchayat, known to be a stronghold of  Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS).

Meanwhile, the PPSS activists also stuck to their stand that they would continue with their three-tier human barricade with children at the front followed by women and men to block the entry of land acquisition officials and police to demolish their betel vineyards to acquire land for the project.
