Pondicherry-Howrah Express halted for 5 hrs over ‘cattle smuggling’

Balasore: Tension ran high at Balasore Railway Station last night after members of the ‘Go Surakshya Samiti’ stopped the Pondicherry-Howrah Express allegedly due to cattle smuggling. However, the train was allowed to leave the station after a few hours.

As per the allegations of the Samiti members, around 31 cattle were being smuggled to Howrah.

Station Manager Bhagabat Das stated that the protesters inspected all the documents before allowing the train to leave the station. “The train arrived at 8:12 pm and left the station at 12:35 am after we showed all the documents to the protesters,” he said.

Along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police, many railway police officials were deployed at the spot to avoid any untoward incident.
