Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday raided the residence of a Regional officer of the State Pollution Control Board Kalinganagar, Jajpur in Bhubaneswar on charges of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The officer, identified as Hadibandhu Panigrahi, was caught by vigilance officials while he was returning after allegedly taking bribes from a factory owner at Khandagiri bari  in the Capital city.

Later, the vigilance officials seized Rs 96,500 cash and one gold coin weighing 10 gram from Panigrahi's possession after Panigrahi failed to give satisfactory answers related to the actual source of the money.

The anti-graft officials then raided Panigrahi's  residence at Khandagiri and reportedly seized documents relating to acquisition of immovable and movable assets like one plot at Angul, one double storied building at Khandagiri in Bhubaneswar, one crusher unit, investments in LIC, Fixed deposits, Bank deposits, gold ornaments weighing 442 grams including one gold coin of 10 grams, silver 1.168 gm, three four-wheelers, one scooter and costly household articles.

Meanwhile, Panigrahi has been arrested and forwarded to the Court today for amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources, said a press release
