Bhubaneswar: As the death toll in the Kujang cracker explosion incident mounted up to two today with one more death at the SCB medical in Cuttack, the political heat in the state too has climbed up. While three MLAs of the ruling Biju Janata Dal engage in bitter wranglings, the Jagatsinghpur Lok Sabha member Bibhu Tarei now has joined the war of words.

After the death of 10-year-old boy Pituna Patra on Thursday at the SCB, another seriously injured person, Fakir Patra died today at the SCB medical college and hospital in Cuttack. Fakir had ninety per cent burn injuries on his body. Fakir`s body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem and it was taken back to Kujang where the grave incident had taken place during organisational celebrations of Cuttack-Barabati MLA DEvashish Samantray who hails from Tirtol near Paradip.

From the day one the cracker explosion incident had assumed a political colour. First it was former cabinet minister and Paradip MLA Damador Rout who ignited the war of words. He held the two, Devashish Samantray and Jagatsinghpur MLA Bishnu Dash for the tragedy. Then the duo attacked Damodar Rout in a joint press conference and said that Damodar Rout was the mastermind. Now it is the turn of Bibhu Tarei, close to Devashish and Bishnu to take up the cudgels against Damodar Rout.

In a statement without naming Damodar Rout, Bibhu Tarei said that some leaders of the district who have been state politics for over 30 years have been trying to vitiate the political environment in Kujang and other parts. Tarei added that it was for the police to investigate the matter and arrive at the truth. While accusations and counter accusations fly thick and fast, the political dusts raised over the tragic incident apparently would continue for some more time.

The tragic incident had taken place on November 16 near Kujang. Eight persons were admitted to the SCB medical of which two have already died. Two others are still not out of danger. Rest as they say is politics over dead bodies.
